Aristan Garandeau, 22, of Croton-on-Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene after driving his 2017 Subaru Impreza south in the parkway's northbound lanes and hitting a 2016 Toyota Avalon head-on in the passing lane between exits 9 and 10 in Rockland at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, New York State Police said.

Brendan Seabrook, a 27-year-old resident of Wilkes Barre, PA, was pronounced dead at Montefiore Nyack Hospital after being extricated by Nanuet firefighters, they said.

Hatzoloh EMS reportedly took a third victim to Nyack Hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

Investigators were trying to determine where Garandeau entered the parkway and why he was going the wrong way.

Rockland Video shared a recording of the crash's aftermath:

Among the responders were the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, Nanuet firefighters, the Rockland County Sheriff's Office, the New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps & Rescue Squad, Rockland Paramedic Services, Rockland Mobile Care and Rockland Auto Repair (for the tow).

The northbound highway was reopened, less than 10 miles from the Bergen County border, shortly before 8:30 a.m.
